VE Day Celebrations at Oulton Academy: Honouring History and Embracing British Values
This week, Oulton Academy has been abuzz with activities commemorating Victory in Europe (VE) Day, marking the end of World War II in Europe. The academy has organised a series of assemblies and form time activities to educate students about the significance of VE Day and its lasting impact on British history.
Throughout the week, students participated in engaging assemblies that highlighted the events leading up to VE Day on May 8, 1945. These assemblies provided a platform for students to learn about the sacrifices made by the Allied forces and the joyous celebrations that followed the end of the war in Europe. Additionally, form time activities focused on deepening students' understanding of VE Day through discussions, presentations, and creative projects.
Principal Mr. Higgins emphasised the importance of remembering VE Day and its connection to the British values that Oulton Academy upholds. He stated, "VE Day is a poignant reminder of the resilience, courage, and unity that define our nation. At Oulton Academy, we strive to instil these values in our students, ensuring they understand the significance of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs."
The celebrations at Oulton Academy are closely aligned with the school's commitment to promoting British values. The academy's ethos is built on the principles of respect, leadership, motivation, resilience, reflection, and self-confidence
By commemorating VE Day, the academy not only honours the past but also reinforces these values, encouraging students to embody them in their daily lives.
Students and staff alike have found the VE Day activities to be both educational and inspiring. The week-long celebration has provided a meaningful opportunity for the Oulton Academy community to come together, reflect on history, and appreciate the freedoms and values that shape modern Britain.
As the week draws to a close, the academy looks forward to continuing its tradition of honouring significant historical events and fostering a deep sense of respect and understanding amongst its students.
