Eco-Club Conference

Our Eco-Committee were invited to attend an Eco-club conference hosted by the Leeds DEC at Leeds Civic Hall on Monday 25th March.  The purpose of this event was to share best practice with other local schools and be given expert advice by several key stakeholders and decision makers in our area. We met with Tom Riordan  (chief executive of Leeds City Council) , councillor Katie Dye, and several industry experts who all had fantastic ideas to help with increasing biodiversity and reducing our carbon footprint in Leeds. The students ( and staff) from around the Leeds area were treated to an insightful workshop with Professor Paul Chatteron (University of Leeds) who helped demonstrate how Leeds needs to save 48 megatons of C02 over the next 20 years.

The was a fantastic event where our Eco-committee received some amazing recognition for their work in winning the Woodland Trust Platinum Award and the Eco-Schools Green Flag International award. Sam Ebbs ( Year 7 ) hit the nail on the head when he was asked to speak to the entire event when he said ' We may be young, but that doesn't mean we don't have a voice!'.

We can't wait to get our hands dirty and continue to make a difference in our local community!
