Parent Academy Councillor Vacancy
Dear Parents/Carers,
A vacancy has arisen on our Academy Council for a Parent Academy Councillor (known as Governors at other schools) and we are therefore inviting applicants to fill this role. There is no prior experience required – we are simply looking for someone who will take an active interest in the life of the Academy and someone who is passionate about wanting the very best for the young people at our school.
The recruitment process will be as follows:
- From today – we invite any applicants to express an interest in this role. Anyone who is a parent or carer of a pupil at the academy is very welcome. If you wish to nominate yourself to be a on the Academy Council, then please email me (j.britton@falcontrust.co.uk) no later than 7pm on Monday 22nd May. I will arrange to get in touch with you to discuss the role further and answer any questions you may have. After this I will send on information about what you need to do next but in short, this will include completing an application form which will give you the opportunity to tell us all about yourself. I will also ask you to write a short paragraph (no more than 500 words) about yourself that I can send out to families to help them decide who to vote for, should we have more than one applicant
- Midday on Wednesday 31st May will be the deadline for applications to be submitted to me via my email address above.
- Week commencing 5th June – if we receive more than one applicant, an election will take place with parents and carers voting online for their preferred candidates, based on the qualities and skills they can offer. In this case, we will send out all the written statements that have been submitted, for families to read to help them make their decisions along with details on how to vote. Voting will close on Friday 16th June.
- The election results will be announced during week commencing 19th June and we hope that our new Parent Academy Councillor will be able to complete the Induction Process and attend our final Academy Council meeting of the year on Monday 20th July.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo a DBS check; a Section 128 check for safeguarding and carry out some online training as part of the Induction process. Being an academy councillor is a very important job as you are acting as a voice for the children and the families and you would be part of the biggest volunteer workforce in the country. These volunteers are key stakeholders in the school and their job is to aid senior leaders to run the school effectively and in the best interests of the children whilst ensuring that good, strong school policies are in place.
The Oulton Academy Council is committed to safeguarding and school improvement; ensuring that the school is the best it can be. It takes a team of hard-working people who give their time willingly to ensure that the long-term goals of the school are achieved. If this reflects your thoughts and feelings, you are the kind of person we are looking for – please get in touch.
Yours faithfully,
Julia Britton
Vice-Chair of Governors
