Soon to be Ambassador School by SSAT
Oulton Academy is well on its way to being recognised as an Ambassador School by SSAT (Schools, Students and Teachers network) for its continued excellence in Teaching for Learning.
Formative assessment is a process which involves working with learners to modify teaching and learning activities so that learning moves forward. Learners know where they are in their learning, where they need to be, and how they are going to get there.
Ambassador schools have successfully completed SSAT’s two-year Embedding Formative Assessment (EFA) programme and demonstrated their continual journey to embed effective formative assessment practices in the school.
The programme involves teachers working in Teacher Learning Communities, meeting on a monthly basis, and working collaboratively to improve classroom practice and become even better.
Matt Gumbley, Vice Principal, said ‘we are delighted at the progress we have made in Teaching for Learning, the consistency displayed within the academy is a reflection of the tremendously talented team of hard-working teachers who are dedicated to continually improving their classroom practise.
John Higgins, Principal, said ‘the quality of teaching for learning has been a driving force in the academy resulting in year on year improvements. In 2022-2023 the academy secured a
Well Above National Progress 8 score of +0.51.’
