Health and Safety Training Standards in Design & Technology

In an effort to refresh the stringent health and safety protocols within the Design & Technology (D&T) department, the department has worked with the D&T Association to continue their comprehensive training programs aimed specifically for our staff. Highlighting the importance of maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment, these training sessions equip participants with the latest techniques and standards in health and safety practices.

During the training, D&T teachers at Oulton Academy were tasked with a practical exercise aimed at applying their knowledge. Under the guidance of expert instructors, they embarked on the challenge of producing a model steamboat, a project that not only showcased their technical skills but also emphasised the implementation of safety measures throughout the design and construction process.

The one-day training session proved to be an invaluable opportunity for staff members to deepen their understanding of health and safety protocols specific to D&T settings. By engaging in hands-on activities and discussions, participants gained practical insights into risk assessment, hazard management, and the safe operation of equipment, essential aspects of ensuring the well-being of both students and educators in D&T environments.

The initiative undertaken by the D&T Association underscores a broader commitment to fostering excellence and innovation in D&T education while prioritising the well-being of all stakeholders involved. By equipping educators with the necessary knowledge and skills to maintain high health and safety standards, such initiatives contribute to creating a conducive learning environment where creativity flourishes without compromising on safety.
