Leeds Poetry Slam

On Monday, as part of our Oulton Academy World book Day celebrations, over 40 of our Year 7 students took part in a city-wide slam poetry competition that encouraged their skills in writing and performing their own spoken word poems.

Facilitated by acclaimed poet Rob Bradley and Authors Abroad, this one-day workshop saw learners work in groups to create and perform an original piece of slam poetry. Groups then competed to be crowned the school’s slam poetry champions and will then progress to the city-wide interschool finals.

Over 14 schools will participate in the Poetry Slam and the winning team from each school will compete in the Grand Final in April.

We would like to congratulate our Poetry Slam champions:

FIRST PLACE:  Tee-Jai D,  Philip G, Edie R, Lexi S, Harrison Y

We wish you lots of luck for the Poetry Slam Grand Final in a few weeks time, at the Carriageworks Theatre in Leeds!
