Outstanding SEND Provision at Oulton Academy: A Beacon of Inclusivity

Oulton Academy is proud to announce that our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) provision has been acclaimed as outstanding by Professor Bev Peartree, a leading expert in SEND and Inclusion from Leeds Trinity University. Following a comprehensive review, Professor Peartree lauded our commitment to inclusivity and the exceptional quality of support provided to students with special educational needs.

In her glowing assessment, Professor Peartree remarked, "This was by far the most inclusive SEND provision I have reviewed at secondary level, considering the SENCo is relatively new. This is an outstanding SEND provision which is led by an outstanding SENCo and a superb team of support staff. The senior leadership in the school have been very supportive of the SENCo and the principal’s vision for all is to be highly commended."

The SEND provision at Oulton Academy, spearheaded by our dedicated SENCo Chris Williams, reflects our deep-seated commitment to ensuring that every student, regardless of their needs, receives the highest quality education and support. Chris Williams, who joined our academy relatively recently, has quickly established a robust and effective support system, working closely with our talented team of support staff to address the unique needs of each student.

Chris Williams expressed his pride in the team and the support from the school leadership, saying, "It’s incredibly rewarding to see our hard work recognised in this way. The success of our SEND provision is a true team effort. Our support staff, teachers, and the senior leadership team have all been instrumental in creating an environment where every student can thrive. We believe in the potential of all our students, and our goal is to provide them with the tools and support they need to succeed."

Principal John Higgins also praised the dedication and collaborative spirit that have been integral to achieving this outstanding standard. He stated, "At Oulton Academy, we are committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all our students. The exceptional work done by Chris Williams and the entire SEND team is a testament to this commitment. Their passion and dedication ensure that every student receives the individualised support they need to succeed. We are immensely proud of their achievements and the difference they make in the lives of our students."

This recognition from Professor Peartree highlights the effective and compassionate approach of Oulton Academy’s SEND provision. The academy’s ethos of inclusivity is woven into the fabric of our school community, ensuring that all students, irrespective of their needs, are supported, valued, and given the opportunity to excel.

In response to the review, the senior leadership team has reaffirmed their commitment to continuously enhancing the support structures in place for students with SEND. This dedication is evident not only in the quality of educational support provided but also in the broader cultural environment fostered at Oulton Academy, where diversity and inclusivity are celebrated.

As we look to the future, Oulton Academy remains steadfast in our mission to provide an outstanding and inclusive education for all. The acknowledgement of our SEND provision as outstanding is not just a milestone but a motivation to continue striving for excellence in every aspect of our support for students with special educational needs.
