Magic Meets Mindset: Year 7 & 9 Students Unlock Learning Potential with Learning Tricks Workshops
Last week, Oulton Academy welcomed the innovative team from Learning Tricks, who delivered a spellbinding series of workshops to our Year 7 and Year 9 students. Blending the art of magic with powerful learning strategies, the sessions were designed to build resilience, divergent thinking, and a growth mindset—all while having a lot of fun!
Year 9: Thinking Outside the Box
Our Year 9 students explored the power of divergent thinking—learning how one problem can have many creative solutions. Through a series of engaging activities, they were challenged to think flexibly and collaboratively. The highlight? Each student designed and performed their very own magic trick, applying their new skills in a truly magical finale.
Year 7: Climbing Out of the Learning Pit
Year 7 students took a deep dive into the concept of the Learning Pit—a metaphor for the struggle and growth that comes with learning something new. With resilience and problem-solving at the heart of the session, students learned how to spin plates—literally! From mastering the basics to flipping, catching, and switching hands, they discovered that persistence and creativity can turn frustration into triumph.
These workshops were more than just fun—they were a powerful reminder that learning is a journey, and with the right mindset, every student can achieve the extraordinary.
A huge thank you to Learning Tricks for inspiring our students and staff alike. We can’t wait to welcome you back!
