Oulton Academy Launches Summer Safeguarding Leaflet to Support Student Wellbeing

As we approach the summer holidays, Oulton Academy is proud to share our Summer 2025 Safeguarding Leaflet, a vital resource designed to help students stay safe, healthy, and supported during the break.

The leaflet, which has been distributed to all students and is available on our website, provides clear, age-appropriate guidance on a wide range of topics that are especially relevant during the summer months. These include:

Physical and Emotional Wellbeing

  • Tips on staying active, managing screen time, and looking after mental health.
  • Encouragement to connect with others, try new activities, and take time for self-care.

 Online Safety

  • Advice on protecting personal information, avoiding risky online behaviour, and understanding the dangers of livestreaming and private messaging.
  • A reminder that everything shared online leaves a digital footprint.

 Substance Awareness

  • Information about the dangers of vaping, especially illegal THC/Spice vapes, which can carry serious health risks and legal consequences.

 Water Safety

  • Warnings about the hidden dangers of swimming in open water, including cold water shock, strong currents, and underwater hazards.

 Support Services

  • A comprehensive list of local and national organisations offering support for young people and families, covering topics such as mental health, bereavement, bullying, LGBTQ+ support, and more.

Why This Matters

The summer break is a time for rest and fun, but it can also bring challenges. Without the daily structure of school, some students may face increased risks or feel isolated. This leaflet is part of our ongoing commitment to safeguarding and personal development, ensuring that every student knows how to stay safe and where to turn for help if they need it.

We encourage all parents and carers to read through the leaflet with their child and keep it somewhere accessible over the summer.
