Positive Choices - LUFC

Today we welcomed to school the Leeds United Positive Choices team to the academy. The purpose of their visit was to speak to out Year 9 students about making positive life choices.

We had two guest speakers, Davania and Alison.

Davania’s leadership skills and credibility in the criminal world grew to the point where her gang was the most feared in Birmingham. In her cautionary tale she describes the danger hidden in the prison walls and how it is the most threatening place she has ever been.

Alision was entrenched in addiction since the age of 15, for the next 23 years. Alison has experiences of domestic violence, homelessness, criminal and sexual exploitation as part of a county lines gang whom she “worked” with to fund her addiction for several years. She talked to our students about how she was able to turn her life around and what dangers they should look out for in their community.

Alongside the speakers, we also welcomed Sam who is a qualified teacher and Youth Worker for Leeds City Council. She worked with bespoke groups of students from a selection of year groups providing our students the opportunity to express their thoughts, feelings and document this through art, creating small piece of artwork for themselves.

Our students behaviour was impeccable and represented the academy well in front of our guests. Feedback from the students was really good finding the stories from the guests really engaging and felt like they had learned something new about making positive choices.

Thank you to all involved.
