Oulton Academy Champions Road Safety with Community Support
Oulton Academy is proud to stand alongside local families and community leaders in a united effort to improve safety on Wakefield Road — a vital route used daily by many of our students.
Following growing concerns from parents, staff, and residents about speeding traffic and unsafe pavements, Simon Lightwood MP has taken decisive action by writing to Leeds City Council to demand urgent improvements. His letter calls for reduced traffic speeds, enhanced pedestrian safety measures, and the clearing of overgrown vegetation that has made walking conditions hazardous.
Principal John Higgins said, “We are proud to be part of a community that speaks up for the safety of our children. At Oulton Academy, we listen to our families and work with them to make sure every child feels safe and supported — not just inside the school gates, but on their journey to and from school as well.”
The Academy has long prioritised student wellbeing, and this initiative reflects its ongoing commitment to ensuring every child can travel to school safely and confidently. The support from Simon Lightwood MP and the wider community reinforces the importance of collaboration between schools, families, and local authorities.
Oulton Academy will continue to work closely with stakeholders and keep families informed as progress unfolds. Together, we are building a safer, stronger community — one step at a time.
