The Start of Something Big: Oulton Academy Transformed
Oulton Academy is on the brink of a transformational journey as plans for a brand-new, state-of-the-art school building are unveiled. Backed by a major investment from the Department for Education, this ambitious redevelopment marks a bold new chapter for the academy and the wider community it serves.
The proposed scheme, led by Willmott Dixon Construction Ltd, will see the phased demolition of the existing school buildings to make way for a modern, 1,350-place secondary school. The new facilities will include a dedicated Sports Centre, refurbished Performing Arts Hall, enhanced outdoor spaces, and improved access and transport infrastructure—all while keeping the school fully operational throughout the build.
Principal John Higgins shared his excitement about the project, stating:
“This is the start of something truly special for Oulton Academy. The new building will not only transform the learning environment for our students but will also become a hub for the local community. It’s more than bricks and mortar—it’s about creating opportunities, raising aspirations, and building a future we can all be proud of.”
Key Features of the New Development:
- A new 2- and 3-storey school building with cutting-edge academic facilities.
- A separate Sports Centre with changing rooms and increased community access.
- Refurbishment and integration of the existing Performing Arts Hall.
- New multi-use games areas, additional football pitches, and landscaped outdoor learning spaces.
- Safer and more efficient bus drop-off zones, expanded parking with EV charging, and new cycle storage.
- Improved pedestrian routes and accessibility throughout the site.
The development will also enhance community use of the facilities, with dedicated access to the Sports Centre and Performing Arts spaces, ensuring the academy becomes a vibrant centre for learning, creativity, and wellbeing for all.
A public consultation event will be held on Tuesday 4th November 2025, from 16:15 to 19:00 at the Oulton Academy Performing Arts Hall. Local residents, parents, and stakeholders are encouraged to attend and help shape the future of the academy.
This is more than a building project—it’s a bold investment in the future of education and community life in Oulton.
