A Glimpse into the Future: Year 10 Taster Day at New College Pontefract

Last week, 150 of our Year 10 students traded their school uniforms for college clothes to experience a "realist" day in the life of a college student at New College Pontefract (NCP).

Customised Learning

To make the most of the experience, students pre-chose four subjects to trial. The day offered a perfect balance between familiar GCSE curriculum favourites—like Maths, History, and English—and an exciting introduction to subjects they had never studied before, including Law, Psychology, and Criminology.

The College Experience

Beyond the classroom, students got a true taste of the independence that comes with further education. They enjoyed a free lunch provided by the NCP catering staff and welcomed the opportunity to sample the delights of an on-site Starbucks, helping them feel like genuine members of the college community for the day.

Shaping Future Careers

This taster day is a vital part of our commitment to preparing students for life after Oulton Academy. When combined with their recent work experience days, this visit has provided invaluable insight to help our Year 10s decide on their next steps and future career paths.
