Year 7 Students Learn Life-Saving Skills on Restart a Heart Day 2026

270 Year 7 students at Oulton Academy took part in Restart a Heart Day 2026, gaining vital CPR skills that could one day help save a life.

The event, delivered with the support of five volunteers from Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust, provided students with hands-on training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and helped them understand how to respond confidently in an emergency situation.

Throughout the day, students worked through a series of practical demonstrations and guided activities, learning how to recognise the signs of cardiac arrest, call for emergency assistance and perform effective chest compressions. The volunteers shared their expertise and real-life experiences, helping students appreciate the importance of acting quickly when someone suffers a cardiac arrest.

The training formed part of the national Restart a Heart Day campaign, which aims to equip young people with the confidence and knowledge to intervene in life-threatening situations. Since its launch in 2014, the initiative has trained hundreds of thousands of young people across Yorkshire in these essential life-saving skills.

Students approached the training with enthusiasm and maturity, embracing the opportunity to learn skills that could make a real difference to their families, friends and communities. By the end of the session, every student had developed a greater understanding of CPR and the potentially life-saving impact of early intervention.

Oulton Academy would like to extend its sincere thanks to the five volunteers from Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust for giving their time and expertise to support our students. Their dedication ensured a highly engaging and informative experience that will leave a lasting impact on everyone involved.
