Nerissa & Olivia - Hiphop World Championships 2023

Leeds Dynamite

Two of Oulton Academy students Olivia and Nerissa are part of the young Hiphop dance group Leeds Dynamite who have recently qualified to represent the region at the Allstar World Championships held in Florida USA!

The two girls have been a part of Leeds Dynamites for several years. Olivia has been dancing since she was 4 year old and she does hip hop and poms. She’s competed in several competitions with several first places.

Nerissa joined Leeds Dynamite dance group in the summer of 2021. Her style of dance is hip hop. They train every week on Thursday nights practising their routines rigorously. She has competed in Birmingham and Stoke on Trent.

Dozens of groups from across the UK compete throughout the season to win a bid to be able to attend the World Championships. Last year in Stoke they won the competition which enabled them to have a place and compete in the All Star World Championships in Florida. Leeds Dynamite won their bid for Florida when they scored 89 /100 which meant that they beat all the seniors plus team England!

For Hiphop, competing in the World Championships is the equivalent to competing in the Olympics with the event being broadcast worldwide. The Allstar event was hosted at Universal Studios in Orlando Florida in May 2023. In America, the team competed against some of the most prestigious dance companies from across the world.
